The Path to Success Starts Here:

Step 1: Schedule your Consultation

Step 2: Submit or Complete an Academic Evaluation

Step 2: Submit or Complete an Academic Evaluation

Each new client begins with an initial consultation.

During the consultation, I take time to learn about the student’s academic background, review any existing evaluations, and discuss goals to determine the next best step.

For Dyslexia Therapy,  we will move to Step 2.

An academic evaluation is required before beginning dyslexia therapy.

This evaluation helps identify each student’s unique strengths and areas of need, as well as any co-occurring factors that may impact learning. If an evaluation has not yet been completed. You can submit a school evaluaton or I can provide this assessment for an additional charge.

Students who actively participate in dyslexia therapy can expect to make meaningful progress in foundational reading skills, reading accuracy, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. While every child’s rate of growth is unique, those who receive consistent therapy often experience a one- to two-year improvement in reading accuracy within a single year.

About Missy Medcalf, M.Ed., LDT, CALT

The Decoding Literacy Learning Center was born from both professional expertise and personal experience. I’m Melissa (Missy) Medcalf, a Licensed Dyslexia Therapist (LDT) and Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) since 2011. But more importantly, I’m a mom and educator who’s walked this journey firsthand.

My passion for helping struggling readers began years ago when I worked as a Special Education paraprofessional. I loved seeing students overcome challenges and gain confidence. But it became deeply personal when one of my own children began struggling with dyslexia. That moment shifted my career path and it led me to pursue specialized dyslexia training and dedicate my career to helping other children experience the same breakthroughs.

To strengthen my ability to identify and support learning differences, I earned a Master’s Degree in Special Education and became an Educational Diagnostician, allowing me to accurately assess and support students with dyslexia and related learning disabilities.

After years in public education,

I founded The Decoding Literacy Learning Center to offer a more individualized approach where children could receive evidence-based dyslexia therapy and academic support in a warm, encouraging environment.

My mission is simple:

To provide research-based, individualized literacy instruction that empowers struggling readers to become capable, confident, and independent learners, equipping them for academic and personal success!

My Mission

At Decoding Literacy Learning Center, my mission is to provide research-based, individualized literacy instruction that empowers struggling readers to become capable, confident, and independent learners, equipping them for academic and personal success.

How Dyslexia Therapy Works

Virtual dyslexia therapy sessions are typically held four days per week for 60 minutes each. Sessions are engaging and interactive, allowing students to make meaningful progress from the comfort of home. All that’s needed is a laptop or computer, a reliable internet connection, and a positive attitude toward learning something new. All instructional materials are provided, and ongoing communication ensures families feel supported every step of the way.

Personalized Learning

While dyslexia therapy follows the Take Flight curriculum, each lesson is carefully tailored to meet individual learning needs. This is where the therapist’s role becomes essential. As a therapist, it is my job to understand each student’s unique strengths and areas for growth, then adapt lessons to provide the right balance of support and challenge to help them succeed.
